Saturday 2nd December 2006 Other Mens Results Roundup

Mens East League Broxbourne 2s 4 v 4 Shefford and Sandy Broxbourne's second team staged a remarkable recovery against Shefford and Sandy on Saturday when they recovered from being 3-0 down and 4-2 down to earn a draw. Broxbourne's hero of the day was Piers Addis who scored a hat trick. Antony DeCosta scored the other goal for Broxbourne who were actually denied a last minute victory when hot-shot, Dan Ellis, had a goal disallowed. They we're strong defensively and had some pace in midfield. Fortunately with help of "battle axe" Grierson, "chopper" Vickers, "talented" Henley & "kick it if necessary" Adcock the Broxbourne defence held firm with the occasion help from "one touch" Kopsis. Whilst the midfield & attack kept failing to make the home team pay with poor final balls! Frustrated at half time "captain fantastic" Hayden Adams opted to join the forward line up to break the Berko deadlock and in the second half it paid off. Adams received the ball just outside the "D" and skipped past 2 defenders, finding himself wide right of the target he struck the ball towards the goal leaving Richard Pearce to jab it in. Berko knew at this stage the best they could hope for was a draw. This left their back line exposed to even more pressure from the excited Broxbourne team and a ball was hit at Phil Haywood's head by one of their defenders on the "half volley" trying to make a clearance! With Haywood sidelined Jonny "fox in the box" Briggs took revenge for his fellow team mate by slotting the second goal home from between the PF spot and top "D" in to the bottom left hand corner - from that range he doesn't miss! Acknowledging Berko's fine efforts the Broxbourne boys return home victorious and hope Phil "the power" Haywood will be back from injury for their next league fixture in 2007.
