Bedford vs Broxbourne Ladies 2's 0-1 As usual no match report but Broxbourne won 1-0 the scorer was Emma Grainger. Broxbourne Ladies 3's vs Luton 1-1 Unfortunately no match report the scorer was Jayne Poynter Broxbourne 4's vs Leighton Buzzard 4-3 An exciting day out oop north in sunny Milton Keynes beckoned with the once in a lifetime (well actually twice in my case) chance to play on a water based pitch. Water based - well that's a larf because I've seen more water in the Sahara Desert - well actually I haven't because I haven't been to the Sahara Desert or have I? Actually I might have been - if it's near Tunisia then I have been. I've promised myself this year (one of my New Year's resolutions) to look at more maps. Another of my New Year's resolutions is to drink more water so when I was felled by an Enigma player on their well publicised water based pitch I thought 'now's my chance'. As I fell to the ground I expected a large tidal wave to erupt on impact and thought if I kept my mouth open I'd be able to take advantage and increase my water intake. No chance - no sign of any dampness whatsoever. Consequently the ball bounced around considerably and at one time it looked more like a ladies doubles match at Wimbledon. Skill was redundant in this game so it should have suited me but even I struggled. Mind you I did have a couple of good shoulder tussles with the opposition and even one of our own players as we tried to get through a door at the same time. It didn't bode well when we went a goal down within the opening minute of the game - we were caught napping but the sound of the ball hitting the back board soon woke us up and we got to grips with the game. Towards the end of the first half a nicely worked and executed goal netted by Jade cost her parents dearly due to the goal scoring bonus she's negotiated. Then not long after half time during which we were denied oranges (my campaign is failing although perhaps the message hasn't travelled as far as Milton Keynes) - shock, horror etc. we scored a goal from a short corner - our first of the season. Not our first goal but our first short corner goal although I think it's the first time we've scored more that one goal in a game this season. Jackie Gates helped along a shot from Rachel Bygate into the goal. 2 - 1 up and the finishing post in sight but poor old Fee who'd had a great game in goal was beaten by the unforgiving turf. The final score 2 - 2 and another hard earned 2 points. Jackie Gates got player of the match also and celebrated by buying a bar of chocolate and upsetting the opposition umpire in the process. Welwyn 4s at home next week - relegation battle so I've no doubts it'll be a tough one. Enigma vs Broxbourne 5's 1-1 Broxbourne Ladies 5s drew 2 - 2 with Enigma with goals from Jade Webb and Jackie Gates.
