Sunday 28th January 2007 Broxbourne Mixed v Crostyx Mixed Hockey Association Mixed trophy Result: Draw 2 - 2 3 - 2 Win (Golden Goal)

Broxbourne mixed team faced Crostyx in the first round of the HA mixed trophy. The Badgers fielding a strong team faced tough opposition in Crostyx, members of a mixed league. The game started evenly with both teams having a series of attacks but neither able to convert. 16 minutes in a run by Mark Pannell saw Broxbourne awarded a short corner. A fine stick stop by Robbie Dyer was followed up by an unstoppable drag flick by Gemma Smith giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Crostyx came back at Broxbourne piling on the pressure and being awarded a series of short corners. Thanks to fine Broxbourne defending the scores remained at 1-0 until the last 5 minutes of the first half. A Crostyx counter attack caught Broxbourne by surprise and allowed them to strike the ball in to level the score at 1-1. The second half saw a similar story several attacks by Broxbourne through Dyer and Pippa Evans saw Broxbourne awarded a string of short corners. Eventually a laser like strike into the bottom right corner by Sue House gave the badgers a 2-1 lead. Broxbourne dominated for the next twenty minutes with skipper Richard Fresher leading by example. However a lapse in concentration in the last five minutes saw Broxbourne, despite heroic defending by Lance Ellis, concede a late equaliser leaving the score 2-2 at full time. The badgers now faced a nail biting period of extra time in the hope of avoiding a penalty shoot out. Broxbourne started well and were awarded a short corner 2 minutes in. Smith stepped up to the challenge with another fine drag flick. The Crostyx keeper pulled of a fine save but the resulting rebound fell to the waiting stick of Pippa Evans who made no mistakes in converting the shot to win the game 3-2.
