Saturday 29th October Broxbourne 5's vs Winchmore Hill 3's Result: Broxbourne won 5-2
After last weeks bonus of a squad of 11, things reverted to type as we started with 10 and the Humster leaving expletive's on various Mao mobiles, while at the same time phoning the bar to try and get a 7's player detached from his beer and onto the pitch. Things of course went from bad to worse, as Rutts having clearly over trained pulled his hamstring (there is not much chance of him pulling anything else at his age) in the space of five seconds, surely a club if not a world record? Matt Stevenson duly arrived from the bar and the old campaigner Rutts settled down to play an immobile centre forward, as opposed to his normal immobile right back position. Inspired by this turn of events, Broxbourne quickly went 2-0 up with two good goals from Dean Webb, before the opoosition pulled a goal back shortly before half time. With dogged defence from Alistair Pilgrim and Niall Rutter, Broxbourne continued to dominate and were rewarded with a third goal when Smithy put away a penalty flick. In the interim, Rutter junior wandered off pitch to examine a little tap he had received on the ankle, thus keeping up the family domination of team tart award winners this season. Smithy then of course made a desparate attempt to gain the TT award, but only achieved best situation comedy award winner. Discussing distances with the umpire, he was informed that he was the recipient of a green card. As no card was shown, Smithy gleefully told the umpire that he clearly didn't have any cards with him, at which point the umpire waved a "yellow opticians card" at him - irony indeed! Moving Steve Haywood to midfield of course exposed the lack of speed that Smithy had given us and we quickly went on to win 5-2 with a goal from Haywood and with Dean Webb completing his hat trick. A great performance against all odds, with Matt Stevenson making an impressive entrance from the bar on debut.
