Saturday 22nd October Broxbourne 5's vs Royston 3's Result: Broxbourne won 10-1

With the late recruitment of Richard Pearce and Rhys Wyman, the latter making his debut, the 5's set off for the splendid venue that is Bassingbourn Barracks. Security was strict when we arrived, and the rather intimate body search was a suprise to most of us, although Smithy seemed to take to it like a duck to water - that's public school for you!! With new recruits to the team, the 5's set about adapting to having a squad of 11 players - luxury!! Shorn of the deliberate slow build up provided by Rutts, having the week off to get his hair cut and a pedicure, the 5's tore into Royston and were 4-0 up at half time. Continuing in the same vein after the break, the midfield trio of Adams (loan signing from the 6's), Smithy and Gandon produced sultry skills and set up countless chances, which for once the forwards took advantage of to take the score into double figures. It was only the charitable intervention, or not as the case maybe, of ex Chairman Mao that allowed the unmarked winger to partake of a cigar and countless beers before rifling a consoltion goal into the top corner! Chairman Mao slunk off after the game, head suitably buried, leaving Hummy to pick up the pieces and take the decision to drop him from the 7's game later that day. The 5's now head the table on goal difference, rather surprisingly. Goal scorers: Broxbourne: Richard Pearce 3, Nick Gandon 2, Fran Treadgold 2, Dean Webb 2 and Richard Mellor. Royston: Ex Chairman Mao Man of the Match Nick Gandon Stinker Ex Chairman Mao Dickhead Richard Pearce Team tart Rutts These plaudits and honours will appear each week - you have been warned, and will culminate in a fabulous presentation night at some local curry house of the new captain's choosing!!
