Saturday 29th October 2005 Broxbourne Mens 3s v Bishops Stortford 4s Result: Won 8-3 Report by John Chapman

I have to say I took some real satisfaction from this result as I can never remember stuffing 8 goals past any Stortford team before. The score shouldn't hide the fact that based on our first half it easily could have been somewhat different. We were pleased to see the return of Mr Devlin who inspired us with talk of baby sick and sleep depravation. John Edwards prepared for the coming battle by donning black boxing gloves or so it appeared. As to the match well pretty even start, Stortford had more possession and we seemed to rush everything. Goals were scored at both ends and frustration rose in the Broxbourne ranks. The oppo were clearly much more wily than previous Stortford 4th XI teams and it took a while for us to figure out that passing the ball was much more effective than taking off at Mach2 and heading straight for an opposition player and then depositing the ball on their stick. When we had sorted things out the 2nd half was nearly a walkover, as we ran away with the game, scoring some great counter attacking goals. Mr Devlin proved that sleep depravation hasn't dulled his skills as he rifled in one particularly fine effort. Stortford had few real chances in that half. When they did Mr Anstead (yes, SHREK!!!!) proved more than adequate in goal especially when the ball was in the air. However he did seem to lose sight of his near post on one occasion as Stortford scored a consolation goal. 8-3 was a fair reflection of our 2nd half dominance. We still need to calm down and think a bit more at times and we know our can counter attacks have been far too fast for the oppo we've played so far. Goal scorers were: Hubble x3, Devlin x2, Goddard, Cranfield & Huddleston MOTM: Difficult decision John Edwards was a rock, Shrek was excellent (Thanks a lot again Nick for bailing us out ). However the winner must be Dicky. He broke up and then started countless counter attacks and also managed to wind up the oppo, well played.
