Saturday 26th November 2005 Broxbourne Mens 3s v Luton 2s Result: Lost 5-0 Report by John Chapman
Well after the usual jokes about the local ambience and other ones about the opposition’s head banging skills, we settled down in the dressing room awaiting our match. The reason why we were taking these extensive preparations, no sorry read that as precautions was that the weather was crap outside and we didn’t want to get cold and wet. The match itself was a comfortable win for Luton. Their goalie only needed to make about 1 proper save and that summed up our performance. We battled hard in a compressed and sometimes downright packed midfield, but too often their midfield were allowed to waltz through without us putting in a tackle. The Hubble brothers tried hard to launch some decent attacks but found themselves up against some crafty old foxes in the Luton back line. The score was 3 nil to Luton at half time. Ollie played well as did Andy Harris as they took joint responsibility for marking an ex-National League forward, wonder where Luton’s first team were playing? In the 2nd half a change of formation gave our backs and midfield more space and we put on the pressure, but the final ball was always 2 hopeful. Luton definitely didn’t have as much possession and we played somewhat better. The two late goals by Luton were really caused by us pressing forward and getting hit on the counter attack. So a damp and dismal day and a performance with little spark. So next week the visitors are our close rivals in the table Winchmore Hill and Enfield. MOTM : Joint performance by Ollie and Andy.
