Saturday 15th October 2005 Broxbourne Mens 3s v Rickmansworth 2s Result 4 - 2

Well another sunny Saturday, just what the more mature players in the 3rd team need to keep their arthritis at bay! With the beach conditions at John Warner's superb astro it was like being in Spain. Come on Ollie get those kids to work clearing the sand during their detentions. Anyway back to the match, once again a change of personnel in the team this time with an international flavour with our 2 young Germans added to give the team some pace. No, they didn't bring towels for the beach. After a fairly tentative start Brox began to show signs of opening the game up with good play from Mr Goddard as he tried to spray the ball about from CM, whilst captain Cranfield continued to make surging runs at the Ricky defence. Mr Goddard completed one good move with the deftest of touches from all of 1 inch out, Our young German Bijan got another, with the other 2 coming from Mr Gough and Dyfirg, when he finally stopped skidding across the pitch. 4-1 to Brox at the interval. A rousing half time team talk should have led to more, but it didn't go to plan. The 2nd half proved much tougher, as Ricky re-organised and used their more skilful wingers to good effect. Tim E-J stood up well to several shots and made 2 excellent stops. For all their effort Ricky could only pull back 1 goal, but the 3rd team rarely troubled the opposite goalkeeper, something they will need to work on before meeting the likes of Bedford and Luton. MOTM= Mr Goddard in my opinion.
