Saturday 26th November 2005 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Chelmsford 1s/2s Result 1-3: Report by The Magpie

Broxbourne travelled to cold and windy Chelmsford in the hope of continuing their winning run. The result was as miserable as the weather as the essex side ran out 3-1 winners. Having watched the Chelmsford first team play Old Loughts in the game before the Badgers were somewhat surprised to see 4 or 5 of that first team turn out for the second team. The badgers didn't let this affect them and started the game well. They soon took the lead when South Korean import Trai Lee continued his recent hot streak in front of goal when he finished off a slick short corner. Broxbourne should have had a second when Sean Robinson's shot was blocked on the line by a Chelmsford defender's leg. Instead of awarding a flick the umpire inexplicably gave a free hit to the home team. The badgers agony was increased when Chelmsford equalised soon after and then took the lead just before half time. The second half was an even affair but a flurry of yellow cards for both teams meant the game had little structure. Alex Brown lost his composure and was sent off for foul and abusive language as was skipper Robinson. Chelmsford made the extra man count as they scored the decisive third goal to clinch victory. Finally a special mention for Dan Nearney who despite having the sniffles all week braved the cold and showed great commitment to the cause. Nearney, wearing long johns, a hat and mittens showed he isn't afraid to look like a fool to help the team out.
