Saturday 25th February 2006 Broxbourne Mens 1s v West Herts Result won 7-1: Report by The Magpie

Broxbourne returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats on the road as they thrashed West Herts 7-1 at Mill Lane. The victory was all the more impressive as the Badgers only had 11 players after losing defensive rock Freddie Stirling Brown to injury in the warm-up. Stirling Brown was the victim of a wild swing by alleged friend Pete Hamid that caused a nasty gash dissecting the youngsters' single eyebrow. As a result of the tactical adjustments forced upon skipper Sean Robinson the Badgers struggled for any sort of rhythm early on. It took some aggressive play from man of the match Paul Dover to open the scoring. Dover out-physicalled the West Herts centre back and then played a neat one-two with Anthony Traill to leave the midfield anchor with a simple tap in. Traill then doubled the lead after finishing well from Alex Brown's pass and the Badgers got the third on the stroke of half time. Will Fradley took a quick free hit finding Traill who crossed to Dover for another tap in. The Badgers came out a little flat in the second half which allowed West Herts back into the game. Left back Robinson, a defender when he played in the National League, certainly wasn't re-living the glory years. A wild lunge at a West Herts forward earned the skipper a spell on the sidelines - which he looked like he needed and from the resulting short corner West Herts scored. This acted as wake-up call for the home side as they proceeded to march down the other of the field to restore their three-goal advantage. Hamid made up for his earlier recklessness by scoring his first goal for the first team. With Robinson back on the Badgers were back to their full complement and more goals followed. Nick Hill scored a spectacular one handed goal that flew into the roof of the net and Rob Dyer bagged a brace at the end as the big man produced two clinical finishes to complete the rout.
