Saturday 2nd December 2006 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Cambridge City Result - Lost 5-2: Report by A Law
Broxbourne's indifferent away form returned on Saturday as they put in a poor second half performance against their Cambridge opponents. Broxbourne started the game in confident fashion and created several good chances in the first 20 minutes. The Badgers were winning most of the 50/50 balls in this period and were passing the ball around well, but the final killer instinct was severely lacking on Saturday. Sean Robinson worked his way into a great position to score but could only shoot weakly at the Cambridge goalkeeper and his strike partner, Dan Nearney, lost control of the ball with the goal at his mercy. Finally, Broxbourne scored the goal they deserved in the 34th minute, Paul Dover putting the finishing touch to a well-worked penalty corner, but Cambridge struck back on the stroke of half time when an error in the Broxbourne defence allowed a Cambridge forward a clear run on goal. Having largely dominated the first half, Broxbourne approached the second half with confidence but were immediately on the back foot as Blake Burrows was sin-binned for a blatant take of a high ball above shoulder height. Cambridge took advantage and began to dominate possession. They scored goals in the 39th, 43rd and 50th minutes before Alex Brown pulled one back for the Badgers in the 54th minute. However, the goal did not reverse the second half trend of Cambridge dominance and they scored a fifth goal in the 62nd minute to complete Broxbourne's misery. The Badgers travel to Bury St Edmunds next week in their final league game before the Christmas break.
