Saturday 19th November 2005 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Crostyx Result 12-0: Report by William T. Fradley

The badgers romped to their biggest win in years as they demolished bottom of the table Crostyx 12-0 at Mill Lane. Crostyx started the game with a clear game plan: get 11 men behind the ball, defend hard and try to frustrate the oppostion as much as possible. Given this it was vital that Broxbourne got an early goal and after 2 minutes they got their wish as Alex Brown was on hand to score his first goal of the season. Brown then turned provider to set up the slender looking Rob Dyer who produced a composed finish. For Dyer, who turned 40 on Saturday, it was a perfect birthday present. Crostyx continued to defend well but Broxbourne still managed to add a further two goals before the break. Sean Robinson buried a penalty flick into the top corner and Brown added his second just before half time. Faced with a four goal deficit Crostyx came out for the second half looking to attack. This however only played into Broxbourne's hands who repeatedly hit them on the counter attack as the flood gates began to open. Tasmanian Anthony Traill scored four second half goals, former east league golden stick winner Brown completed his hat-trick and there were also goals for Paul Dover, Kevin Long and a second for the veteran Dyer. Dan Nearney was again voted arse of the match and suffered the embarassment of missing a penalty flick as well. Special mention must go to Freddie Sterling Brown who was voted man of the match for his excellent performance at right back. Broxbourne travel to Essex next week to face Chelmsford 2's as they look to keep their winning run going.
