Saturday 17th September Mens 1st Team vs Redbridge & Ilford HA Cup 1st Round

Broxbourne eased into the second round of the HA Cup after beating Redbridge and Ilford 6-1 at Mill Lane on 17th Sept 2005. The home side made a slow start and were behind after 5 minutes, James Ward's shot taking a wicked deflection to leave keeper Alex Ford stranded. Broxbourne responded positively and began to dominate possession. After several near misses Rob Dyer scored the equaliser and soon Broxbourne were ahead with veteran Paul Dover's mis-hit shot bobbling past Redbridge's bemused keeper. As the half went on Broxbourne tightened their grip on the match and by half time were 4-1 up through further goals from Dyer and Dan Hopson. Redbridge started the second half in a similar manner to the first and should have reduced the deficit when they were awarded a penalty flick. However David Griffiths' weak flick was saved easily by Ford. Broxbourne made Redbridge pay with two further goals, Tom Evans with a drag flick from a short corner and Will Fradley's reverse stick thunderbolt with the last hit of the game. Debutant Pete Ware made an impressive debut in defense in place of Danny Ellis who was absent through international duties. Broxbourne will hope that their encouraging pre-season form carries on into the league season which begins in two weeks time.
