Saturday 15th October 2005 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Havering Result 2-1

Broxbourne picked up their first points of the season after they beat newly promoted Havering at Mill Lane. It was an uninspiring performance however and the Badgers will need to improve with tougher games coming up over the next few weeks. Despite dominating possession throughout the match the home side's play lacked intensity and as a result victory was much more hard fought than it needed to be. Broxbourne took the lead mid way through the first half. Rob Dyer's crafty aerial finding Piers Addis on the right wing whose cross was deflected in by portly looking skipper Sean Robinson. Broxbourne's hopes of adding to the lead suffered a blow when midfield general Paul Dover stubbed his toe and had to be carried off. Broxbourne started the second half in a more positive manner and had several opportunities to make the game safe, Nick Anstead guilty of glaring miss. Havering made them pay when they equalised with their first real chance of the day. Anstead gave the ball away cheaply and the resulting counter attack resulted in the equaliser. Broxbourne quickly reasserted their authority earning numerous short corners. The pressure finally told with Dyer scoring a sweet drag flick from Alex Brown's textbook stick stop. With game seemingly won Broxbourne gave new life to Havering when they were reduced to 10 men with Dover being sinbinned. The badgers D held firm with midfield hard man Will Fradley producing several well timed tackles to help preserve the lead and clinch a valuable win.
