Saturday 12th November 2005 Broxbourne Mens 1s v West Herts Result 3-0: Report by William T. Fradley
The Badgers got a welcome road win as they comfortably beat West Herts 3-0. In truth the score could have been even more emphatic had Broxbourne been more clinical in front of goal. The Badgers started the game at break-neck pace and were encamped in the West Herts half. Chance after chance and short corner after short corner were continually wasted as the Broxbourne forwards and midfield failed to deliver in the clutch. West Herts rarely threatened but nearly got an undeserved lead on a counter attack. Keeper Alex Ford put his recent woes behind him to make a miraculous save to keep the score at 0-0. The breakthrough finally came on the stoke of half time as Skipper Sean Robinson made up for his earlier misses with a composed finish from a short corner. Such a one sided contest couldn't last forever and West Herts began to gain the upper hand at the start of the second half winning several short corners. The Broxbourne short corner unit did its job though despite Tom Evans repeatedly being called for false starts. Having weathered the storm Broxbourne made sure of the victory with 2 further goals down the stretch. Robinson bagged his second and Dan Nearney smashed in the third from South African Anthony Traill's pinpoint pass. Nearney undid all his good work when he was green carded for cruelly taunting a West Herts player. Nearney will be put before the club's disciplinary panel during the week after this disgraceful behaviour. Manager Bob Gotobed refused to comment. (now there's a surprise!)
