Saturday 11th February 2006 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Harlestone Magpies Result lost 1-0: Report by The Magpie

Broxbourne returned empty handed from the long trip to Harleston after the Magpies scored a late winner to rob the badgers of what would have been a well earned point. Despite missing skipper Sean Robinson (little finger), Pete Ware and Tom Evans (convenient holiday timing) and Dan Nearney (dropped) Broxbourne still managed to field a strong side with Pete Hamid making an impressive first team debut up front and left back Danny Ellis returning after larking around in the 2's for the past few months. The first half was tight contest with few clear cut chances created by either side. The best chance fell to Brazilian midfield maestro Traillio whose quick turn and shot hit and the outside of the post and went wide. At the other end Harleston created little with new look defensive unit of Will Fradley, Kevin Long, man of the match Freddie Stirling Brown and Ellis keeping the Magpies at bay. After the break Harleston began to gain the upper hand and started to dominate possession. However it was the Badgers who created the best chance when Nick Hill crossed for stand-in skipper Alex Brown who showed that despite his advancing years he hasn't lost it as he expertly deflected the ball towards goal only for the keeper to make a miraculous save. Broxbourne then suffered a blow when Paul Dover was sin binned for a cynical back stick challenge. For Dover the day couldn't get much worse, the Essex lad got lost on the way to the game nearly ending up in Kings Lynn, was then voted arse of the match and the yellow card means he is suspended for next week's clash with league leaders Peterborough. Down to ten men it was backs against the walls as the Magpies poured men forward with the Badgers defending desperately. Having weathered the storm and back to eleven men the match seemed set to finish goalless. However with five minutes left the Badgers hearts were broken when Harleston scored a soft goal and all the hard work was undone. There was still time for more agony as Traillio had a perfectly good goal ruled out in the last minute and the Badgers knew it was not to be their day. Many positives can be taken from the performance though as Broxbourne look to get back to winning ways next week. Team: Ford, Fradley, Stirling-Brown, Long, Ellis, Hill, Traill, Dover, Brown, Dyer, Hamid.
