Saturday 5th November 2005 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Peterborough Town Result 4-7: Report by William T. Fradley

Broxbourne were given a lesson in finishing by high flying Peterborough as they fell to a disappointing defeat. The Badgers started superbly and were 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes. Goals from Piers Addis and a sweet finish by Sean Robinson from Nick Hill's pass had the home side in control and seemingly set for an easy win. However Peterborough responded immediately when their talented striker Gary Hales reduced the arrears with a first time finish. Broxbourne soon restored their two goal lead when Anthony Traill deflected in a slick short corner. With half time approaching and the home side cruising Peterborough were given a life line when they punished Pete Ware's wayward pass to make the score 3-2. Clearly boosted by their late first half revival Peterborough came out for the second half a different team and scored 3 quick goals to leave the Badgers shell shocked. A combination of sloppy play in midfield, poor marking at the back and deadly finishing from Peterborough striker Hales put the away side in complete control. Broxbourne briefly threatened a comeback when Hill scored and then Peterborough had a dubious goal disallowed. They couldn't complete the comeback however as Peterborough scored two further goals to seal the victory. The Badgers travel to West Herts next week knowing they need a win to get their season back on track and to start climbing away from the wrong end of the table.
