Saturday 4th March 2006 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Crostyx Result won 9-1: Report by The Magpie

Broxbourne produced a patchy performance but it was still enough to despatch bottom of the table Crostyx 9-1. The Badgers got the perfect start when Rob Dyer opened the scoring after 2 minutes. From a short corner Dyer unleashed a powerful drag flick into the roof of the net to give the keeper no chance. The lead was soon doubled when Anthony Traill found Will Fradley who produced a clinical first time finish. In truth Fradley shouldn't have been on the pitch, several wild and dangerous tackles were left unpunished by some lenient umpiring. Assuming the floodgates would then open Broxbourne took their collective foot off the pedal and allowed the home side back into the game. Centre back Pete Ware, a former Crostyx player, scored a spectacular own goal past a bewildered looking Alex Ford. Ware wasn't quite so clinical at the other end of the pitch as he missed numerous chances to atone for his earlier error. Crostyx's revival didn't last long as Broxbourne immediately restored their two goal advantage with Traill finding the net after good work from Dan Nearney. Two further goals followed before half time, Paul Dover scored against his former team and skipper Sean Robinson finshed off a slick move involving Traill and Moroccan under 17 international Pete Hamid. The second half was a forgettable affair with some poor hockey being played by both sides. With the game seemingly won the Badgers became sloppy with possession of the ball and lost all structure. Despite the poor play the goals continued to flow. Striker Dyer scored two more goals from short corners to complete his third hat-trick of the season and Robinson and Dover each got their second goals of the day to finish the rout. The Badgers should have gone into double digits but Traill and Ware seemed to be trying to out-do each other in terms of air-shots with the goal at their mercy. Ware's victory was confirmed when he was voted arse of the match. The Badgers will have to improve next week when they face what will probably be Chelmsford's first team in the guise of their second team. Team: Ford, Stirling-Brown, Ware, Evans, Ellis, Traill, Dover, Fradley, Hill, Dyer, Hamid. Subs: Nearney, Robinson.
