Saturday 4th February 2006 Broxbourne Mens 1s v Blueharts Result 4-1: Report by The Magpie
Broxbourne got back to winning ways after last week's disappointing result with a 4-1 victory over local rivals Blueharts. The home side made the perfect start with a goal after only 30 seconds. Nick Hill crossed from the right and found Rob Dyer lurking at the far post who finished with aplomb. The Badgers didn't rest on their laurels and quickly doubled the lead. Skipper Sean Robinson made a penetrating run into the D and found Hill who smashed the ball home from a tight angle. When Anthony Traill scored minutes later it looked like a rout was on the cards. Traill, dropped to bench for breaking a club curfew on friday night, produced the ideal response with a classy finish from a short corner. Inevitably the purple patch couldn't last the whole game and in the second half Blueharts began to assert themselves with periods of sustained pressure. They were aided on 55 minutes when left back Kevin Long was sinned binned for dangerous play. In truth Long was lucky not to be red carded for a wild swing at a Blueharts player after the whistle had gone. Down to 10 men the Badgers were forced back into their own half but keeper Alex Ford produced a series of fine saves to maintain the lead. The resistance was finally broken on 58 minutes as the Blueharts striker gave Ford no chance with a well placed shot. Broxbourne didn't panic and once back to their full complement of players clinched victory with 2 minutes left when Dyer smashed the ball home from the top of the D after great play from man of the match Paul Dover to make the score 4-1. Next week the Badgers face a long trip to Norfolk to face Harleston Magpies. Team: Ford, Stirling-Brown, Evans, Ware, Long, Hill, Dover, Fradley, Brown, Robinson, Dyer. Sub: Traill.
