Saturday 25th February Broxbourne Ladies 5's vs Royston Result: Drew 1-1
We broached new territory this week - a draw 1 - 1 and as we haven't drawn this season, I didn't know whether we should feel elated or deflated so ended up feeling neither although we were quite cheerful when we went 1 up early on in the game with a cracking goal from Lauren Fixter. Unfortunately the feel good factor didn't last that long once Royston equalised. To be fair - on balance - Royston were probably the better side on the day and would have deserved to have won - but they didn't. We did have a secret weapon ie Emma Grainger posing as a goal keeper - she'll do anything to get in the 5s but then most players would which is why I have several thousand pounds deposited in an off shore bank account. (Not in Switzerland of course as they don't have any shores - however if you ask a Swiss person 'what shores?', they will answer 'a light and bitter please'.) Fee made a welcome return from injury this week showing she'd lost none of her enthusiasm as a certain umpire will testify!!!! Thankfully, the umpire was colour blind and pulled out of her pocket her dentist's appointment card. We were missing several of our regular players this week as they were shipped off to other teams - but we want them back otherwise I have to learn lots of new names and my memory isn't what it used to be. The new players drafted in did very well but it's a bit tricky getting used to playing with different players however good. We travel to the far reaches of the UK this week and set off on Tuesday hitch hiking en masse to Aylesbury for a team bonding exercise - which will be just as well as it's meant to get very cold this week.
