Saturday 15th October 2005 Broxbourne Ladies 5s v De Montefort University Result 0 - 8
Weather - started slightly misty and overcast but then the sun broke through the cloud cover and blue skies appeared - the temperature rose and it was safe after all to have left the thermals behind. Despite the early start De Montefort University arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed and proceeded to run the Ladies 5s ragged so we all now have to buy new kit! There's not a lot you can say about an 0 - 8 defeat but that's never stopped me before! The Ladies 5s are a very young side which is why I play for them - it helps increase the average age from 13 to 73 which makes the score line look far more respectable given that we are then fielding a team which includes senior citizens - no age bias in the 5s in line with proposed new Government legislation. We haven't quite managed to have a regular team so far this season so many players have willingly played in unfamiliar positions but hopefully we will be able to get a more settled team and start getting some favourable results. I can't fault the team for their work rate and determination. De Montefort University were a strong side with a Saracens Ladies and future England rugby player amongst them - I was a bit concerned about her tackling - I felt grabbing us around the legs and throwing us to the floor was a littled uncalled for - I can fall over quite easily on my own! We have a talented group of young players and you just watch this space as the season progresses. We have no game 22nd October - and play Bishop's Stortford away 29th October.
