Saturday 14th October Broxbourne Ladies 5's vs Enigma Result: Broxbourne won 1-0
I said last week 'watch this space' but I didn't think you'd have to watch this space quite so soon. Boy was we good or what? Ok so the umpires missed a few things but having done the umps course last Sunday i didn't realise what a difficult job it was. Did you know the umpires have to phone each other up before a game and co-ordinate their outfits? Can you imagine trying to co-ordinate with Trev for example? And did you know a Foxes pealess whistle is best? What happens if you're hungry? Anyway where was I? Oh yes back to the game. Well we beat Enigma 1 - 0 which was a bit of a variation on last year's result (keep up with the jokes) and the goal of the season was scored by Sandy Edwards. Given that the season isn't yet very old and it was a really soft sort of goal then I'm sure someone's bound to score a better one - hopefully we will score again this season as long as we have enough players to put out a forward line. Fortunately for me this week the player I was marking had a nasty chest infection which meant I could keep up with her but then I didn't want to get too close unless I caught something. Being downwind of her coughing at times was very dodgy. We had a few new 'babies' in the team who all did really well and the future still looks bright if not exactly orange! So well trained are the juniors when they are delivered to the 5s that all I have to do is make sure they are pointing in the right direction each half - actually that's quite difficult sometimes as I'm not always sure myself which way we are going. It was a great team performance and I was right chuffed to win. We are now second in the league with 8 points which is a considerable improvement on last season at this stage. Ok so we were given 4 points courtesy of Tring but we're not proud. And we have a seriously fantastic goal difference of + 1. And just a thought to finish with - how helpless do you feel if you have a full cup of coffee in your hand and you start to sneeze? Maz
