Saturday 13th January 2007 Broxbourne Ladies 5s v Allenburys Result: ? Stopped trying to work them out!
With goalposts constructed from a metallic substance, using a magnetic ball this week was not a good idea. No less than 3 perfectly executed shots on goal seemed to swerve at the last minute and Bob's your Uncle there the ball was skimming past the posts. Then there were two goals struck from outside the D and probably all the rain we've had recently has reduced its radius. We was on fire in the first half and were really giving Allenburys the run around and we did then manage to score half way through the first half with a well struck shot from the edge of the D by Anna Wilson. At half time Allenburys jiggled their players around a bit after which they looked very flushed. When they had calmed down after the jiggling they had more impact upon the game and whilst we well continuing to pile on the pressure Allenburys broke through a few times and despite some heroic dives from GK Fee, including one mid air collision with one of the oppo with which resulted in the use of a ice pack by her in an embarrassing place which Lorraine then tried to pass on for second hand use, they managed to score. I think I might have said something like 'oh dear' when they scored although I probably was thinking of some other profanity. They say you make your own luck but I'm not sure what more we can do to make it go our way - gone are the lucky knickers which didn't seem to work also the four leaf clover I had shed its leaves during the autumn. The lucky black cat I had is now so old its gone grey and the rabbit's foot I got hold of was confiscated by Heathrow customs as it was still attached to the rabbit and they don't allow livestock in tourist class Jackie had run out of Stollen cake by mid week so I wonder if that might have had a negative or positive effect on her performance. I've also heard pentopeptides are available over the counter in most chemists but haven't a clue what good they are but it keeps being advertised on TV and I'm therefore wondering whether they might boost the team's performance. I'm desperately trying to think of reasons and excuses and solutions - I do use a contact lens All In One Solution which up till now I've never found solved anything. Oh well - bring on Enigma next week - we're playing on a water based pitch which will be much like last weeks pitch at Tring.
