Saturday 4th February 2006 Broxbourne Ladies 5's vs South Herts Result: Broxbourne lost 4-2

Our winning streak of one game was brought to an abrupt end because the opposition scored more goals than us and I have since found out that is why if we score more goals than the opposition we emerge winners. I think we may have arrived at the game too early and therefore peaked before the match even started. Mustn't let that happen again. Great goal from Rebecca Mansfield - her first for a senior Broxbourne team - time is running out for me to score before I have to hang up my boots. I don't think anyone really hangs up their boots when they retire - they might chuck them in the back of a cupboard somewhere only to be removed when someone eventually finds out where the terrible smell was coming from. Jackie Gates scored our other goal - she was obviously worried about Becky Quiddington catching her up - nothing like a bit of healthy rivalry. Guess what? - we got oranges at half time - good old South Herts even though they beat us. And guess what else? - the Ladies 5s score and scorers got in the Hertfordshire Mercury this week. What a great week therefore it's been for the Ladies 5s - it's not always about winning - well it is really but you have to be positive and put on a brave face.
