Saturday 26th November Broxbourne Ladies 2's vs Hertford 2's Result: Won 5-3

Broxbourne moved up to third in the league after this high scoring local derby on Saturday. The weather may have been almost arctic but the on pitch action was anything but. Broxbourne dominated proceedings in the first half but for all their efforts went behind in the early stages when a free hit outside the D was superbly met by a Hertford forward, who produced an almost unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. Then began a frustrating period for Broxbourne as they literally threw everything at the Hertford defence. Firstly a penalty stroke was awarded for an infringement in the D. The flick looked to be heading in until the diving Hertford goalkeeper made a good save with her trailing leg to deny Broxbourne the equaliser. Several more shots were cleared off of the line in the first half, Broxbourne began to wonder what they would have to do to score in this match. The play was held up for several minutes as both teams lost players to injuries. The short respite allowed Broxbourne to regroup and just before half time, Emma Grainger played a perfect shot from a short corner to level up the scores. The second half proved to be as eventful as the first with six goals being scored. Crucially the early breakthrough in the half came from Broxbourne as Grainger made one of her trademark runs, unselfishly passing to Tracy Tong who swept home the ball to give Broxbourne the lead. Further goals were to follow from Pippa Evans and another sweet strike from Grainger gave Broxbourne a 4-1 lead. Anxious moments soon followed as a comfortable lead began to look a little shaky as Hertford pulled one back as an innocuous looking shot found its way into the goal. Broxbourne restored the three goal advantage within minutes, Evans completing her brace with a well taken goal. Hertford were determined to give it their all until the last, narrowing the gap yet again with a strike that was driven past the advancing keeper from the top of the D. Despite this late comback, Broxbourne remained composed to see out the remaining minutes and secure all four points.
