Saturday 10th December Broxbourne Ladies 2's vs Tring Result: Won 3-2

Broxbourne 2nd XI held on against a resurgent Tring side to claim all four points on Saturday and leave themselves riding high in the league going into the Christmas break. With their previous encounter ending in a 4-4 draw, Broxbourne knew that the visitors had goals in them and that even with a lead, they could not afford any complacency. The match started at a pace, both sides forcing saves from the goalkeepers early on. Broxbourne looked to have taken the lead when a shot from Emma Grainger seemed to be heading in , unfortunately the ball struck the post and came back out to deny them an early advantage. A goal mouth scramble finally resulted in Broxbournes breakthrough, the ball was pinging around in the area when Siobhan Devlin took the initiative to strike a ferocious shot at goal, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and Broxbourne ahead. Tring continued to pressure the Broxbourne defence with a succession of short corners, excellent work from Bryony Smith and Becky Philo in defence kept them at bay and allowed Broxbourne to break for the second goal. A trademark run from Grainger who made no mistake when one on one with the keeper, put Broxbourne 2-0 going into the break. Even with this cushion, Broxbourne knew they couldn't afford any complacency and soon added to the goal tally as a pinpoint pass from Jenny Orbell found Pippa Evans in the D who slotted home for Broxbournes third. As in their previous game, the visitors made life uncomfortable for Broxbourne, two goals from short corners within minutes of each other meant that the final 15 minutes of the game were a tense affair, however Broxbourne hung on for a victory which sees them maintain third place in the league.
