Saturday 9th December Waltham Forest 1s v Broxbourne Ladies 1s Result: Won 1-2

The badgers bounced back from last weeks defeat with a magnificent victory over Waltham Forest. Broxbourne travelled to Waltham Forest with high expectations after their previous 2-0 victory over the opposition. The start of the game saw Broxbourne piling on the pressure with a number of attacks up the left wing starting in defence through Gemma Smith making a series of passes up the left wing to Mel Evans who was able to cross the ball in to Amy Titch. Unfortunately Broxbourne were unable to convert and a rare attack from Waltham Forest saw them awarded a short corner. Broxbourne were caught out with a slipped ball back to the taker who converted to give Forest the lead. Broxbourne then struggled to put any pressure on to the home side and the half time score remained 1-0. Broxbourne came out in the second half with a new determination to win and re-exerted their dominance throughout the second half. An attack up the middle saw fine play between Michelle Chapman and Smith allowed Smith to unleash a 20 yard aerial to Sue House who was able to take the ball into the D to win a short corner for the Badgers. A well rehearsed short corner routine saw a pass from Jo Shrimpton out to Kate Maxfield who bunted the ball back to Shrimpton who deflected the ball into the top right corner of the goal. Forest were unable to respond and Broxbourne continued to control the game. An attack up the right side of the pitch started in defence with Sophie Minter and built up in speed with lovely passing between Maxfield and Katie Naylor the latter winning another short corner for Broxbourne five minutes from time. The ball arrived to the waiting stick of She House who wasted no time in striking the ball straight into the bottom right corner giving Broxbourne a well deserved lead. Broxbourne however didn't make things easy for themselves and faced pressure from Forest for the remainder of the match. However the strength of the Broxbourne defence showed through and the game finished 2-1. Broxbourne look forward to continuing with this success after a well earned Christmas break. Line up Gemma Smith, Michelle Chapman, Sophie Minter, Helen Toon, Kim Bames, Mel Evans, Kate Maxfield, Sue House, Katie Naylor, Amy Titch and Jo Shrimpton
