Saturday 27th January 2007 BBHC v Broxbourne Ladies 1s Result: Won 0 - 1

Following last weeks excitement the badgers travelled to dreary Kent full of expectation, they didn't disappoint with a well deserved 1-0 victory over BBHC. The game started well for BBHC with five minutes of pressure in midfield, unfortunately they couldn't break through the Broxbourne defence and failed to even get the ball into the D. After the initial pressure BBHC were unable to maintain any short of pressure and Broxbourne controlled the match for the remainder of the half. The badgers produced some fine play including a series of moves up the right wing initiated by Sophie Minter in defence who working with Kate Maxfield made several short pushes beating three BBHC players. Maxfield finished the attack with a cross which just missed the waiting stick of Pippa Evans. Broxbourne continued to pile on the pressure, particularly up the right side of the pitch but were unable to convert leaving the half time score at 0-0. A frustrated Broxbourne team came onto the pitch for the second half determined to score and did not disappoint. A text book transfer of play saw the ball move from Minter in right defence via Ashleigh Davis in the centre of the pitch to Left defender Gemma Smith. Smith took on two BBHC players demonstrating excellent stick control before slapping the ball onto Melinda Evans. Evans then crossed the ball into Sue House who was unnecessarily challenged resulting in a penalty flick being awarded to Broxbourne. Helen Toon stepped up to the challenge and converted a fine penalty flick to finally give the badgers a deserved 1-0 lead. Despite continued pressure Broxbourne were unable to convert again but go into a two week break happy with the three points. Team line up Gemma Smith, Kim Bames, Ashleigh Davis, Michelle Chapman, Sophie Minter, Melinda Evans, Sue House, Helen Toon, Alison Hutchin, Kate Maxfield, Katie Naylor, Jo Shrimpton and Pippa Evans.
