Saturday 26th November Broxbourne Ladies 1's vs Hertford Result: Won 3-0

In a match that swung from end to end, Broxbourne emerged victors as they took on local rivals Hertford on Saturday. Having had last week off due to the icy weather, Broxbourne were raring to go and full of running. Early pressure from the two strong Hertford forwards was soaked up by excellent defensive work from Michele Chapman and Jackie Edwards. With the ball moving from end to end, Jo Connolly never gave up chasing the ball and was rewarded for her efforts when Broxbourne were able to maintain a good period of possession. During one of these periods, Broxbourne were awarded a short corner. A good accurate ball out from the corner was met by Jo Shrimpton who fired home from the top of the D to give Broxbourne a deserved lead. Shrimpton was again involved in the second goal, as another short corner proved fruitful. The strike from Shrimpton was initially saved by the goalkeeper, but midfielder Mel Evans was on hand to put the rebound over the line and give Broxbourne a two goal advantage at the break. Broxbourne made sure the game was out of Hertfords reach midway through the second half as Katie Naylor deflected Shrimptons cross passed the goalkeeper. Hertford continued to try and find a way through the solid Broxbourne defence but were unable to do so and Broxbourne took all three points to leapfrog them in the league table. The first XI will be at home this week against Stevenage.
