Saturday 22nd October Broxbourne Ladies 1's vs Welwyn Garden City Result: Broxbourne won 7-2

IWith Welwyn having pipped Broxbourne to the final promotion place last season, Broxbourne had a point to prove when they played their local rivals in a friendly on Saturday. It initially looked like Welwyn had deserved the promotion place, with two quick goals, one in the first minute, setting the early pace. Undeterred, Broxbourne regrouped and were back in the game when Annette Berg showed some impressive individual skill at a penalty corner to go round several players and fire home to bring Broxbourne back into the game. This sparked Broxbourne into life and they were soon back on level terms when another short corner, initially saved by the goalkeeper, fell to Katie Naylor, who made no mistake in slotting home to the bottom corner. The second half was all Broxbourne as they proceed to run riot with the Welwyn defence. Two goals from Jo Shrimpton putting daylight between the two sides, one of these coming from a superb dummy by Jo Connelly, fooling the goalkeepr into thinking she was about to shoot, she instead passed to Shrimpton who made no mistake when presented with an open goal. The goals kept on coming, a dangerous pass across the defence by Welwyn was well intercepted by Mel Evans, her initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but coming straight back at her she made sure of the goal at the second time of asking. Goals from captain Kate Maxfield and another from Naylor before the final whistle completed the emphatic victory.
