Saturday 12th November Broxbourne Ladies 1's vs Anchorians Result: Broxbourne won 2-1

Broxbourne edged out Anchorians on Saturday in what was a tightly contested match with both teams almost evenly matched throughout. Anchorians had the most of the early play, some quick running by their forwards had Broxbourne defending for the early parts of the match. Having soaked up the pressure, Broxbourne were able to move the ball out of their end and attack the Anchorians goal. A short corner was almost converted as a strike to the far post from Jo Shrimpton was cleared by the Keeper. Mel Evans followed up the clearance with a shot that looked an almost certain goal until the Keeper again made a last ditch save to deny Broxbourne. Fortunately for Broxbourne they were soon awarded another corner and this time Ali Hutchin was on hand to secure the goal. From then on Broxbourne dominated proceedings, much of the game being played in the midfield, they were unfortunate when a lose ball was picked up by an Anchorians midfielder, who played a pinpoint pass to a striker at the top of the D, who produced a a superb strike over the keeper to even up the scores at half time. The second half was much like the first, both teams having spells of possession but unable to convert this into goals. It was beginning to look like a draw, Broxbourne having several attempts desperately cleared by the Anchorians defence. With only a few minutes remaining, Captain Kate Maxfield made an inspired run down the right wing, crossing to the penalty spot for Mel Evans to turn in to edge victory.
