Saturday 1st December Broxbourne Ladies 1's vs Holcombe 1's Result: 3-3

A goal in the final minutes from Player of the Match Jo Shrimpton, ensured that Broxbourne took a share of the spoils in this their opening fixture of the league campaign. In a match that went from end to end, Holcombe took the early advantage, putting the visitors under pressure and securing an early goal. Broxbourne didn't allow this early breakthrough to disrupt their game plans and were soon back on level terms when Jo Connelly shot home from close range. Both teams continued to play attacking hockey, the ball moving from end to end, with Pippa Evans and Jo Shrimpton making a nuisance of themselves with the Holcombe defence and at the opposite end, some excellent defensive work from Ashleigh Davis and Helen Toon. Both teams netted again before half time, Evans scoring from a penalty corner to bring the scores back to 2-2 going into the half time break. The second half started in similar fashion to the first, an early goal from Holcombe, edging them in front once again. Determined not to leave the match empty handed, gaining several short corners in succession, Broxbourne turned up the pressure on the Holcombe defence. Going into the final 10 minutes of the match it looked like Broxbournes efforts were going to be in vain, until Shrimpton took advantage of a poor clearance at a short corner, showing some individual skill to pass both the defence and the keeper before firing home to give Broxbourne a share of the points.
