Formed in 1903, Broxbourne Hockey Club has now been running for 102 years. Our home ground at Mill Lane has not always been our home, but we made a firm foundation when we built a sand-based astro in 1996 following decades of use on 4 well-kept grass pitches.
Currently running 12 senior teams there is also a very large amount of juniors on our Sunday morning training sessions, where a substantial amount of our current senior players once started their love of hockey. A large amount of our committee is also home-grown and the rest have since embraced the great atmosphere we have at the club.
Along with squash, tennis and cricket, the hockey club at Broxbourne Sports Club share a wonderful club house which has hosted some great club parties, gigs, charity functions and birthday parties. More importantly it has been the meeting place for our members over several generations and remains to be a strong presence in a friendly club.
In 2003, Broxbourne HC celebrated our centenary year with tours to Canada and Asvion, along with a Centenary Ball at Broxbourne Civic Hall hosting 300 people. In celebration of this event, Andy Minter collected a large amount of articles to piece together Broxbourne Hockey Club's history. Many thanks to him for his hard work.
We have recently seen international mixed hockey matches at Broxbourne, with a couple of Broxbourne players representing England, but the highlight as always is the fun that's had in the bar. For event information, see the Club News page.
